Humanistic psychotherapy:
I use a Rogerian or person-centered therapy approach. The basic premise is that if the therapist is successful in conveying genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathy, then the client will respond with constructive changes. Research has demonstrated that these qualities can be made real in a relationship and can be conveyed and appreciated in a short time.
Cognitive behavioral psychotherapy:
Cognitive and behavioral methods are used to challenge dysfunctional beliefs and to promote adaptive thinking. The underlying theory is that thoughts and beliefs affect how we feel and act. Therefore, testing new behaviors and ways of thinking can actively change one's emotions and overall mood.
